Rough draft of first scene for the Tin Islands project ready for comments

I’ve laid out the first scene, in rough form. I’m going to be taking some time off this project for a while, because I have a paid project due in late January and it needs a lot of work. I do hope to still have this finished, into a playtestable form, by the end of January,…

First two companions are up for the Tin Islands project

Isabella, a gentlewoman, and Rodrigo, a merchant captain, are now written up.  The third I want to write up is a thief, but the thief in the core book is pretty close to what I want, so I’ll skip her for now and instead work on the scenes of the story.

The cover of my next book is up!

Just a quick note to say that the cover of my next book is up on the Atlas site. Legends of Hermes was a fun project to work on.  I’d like to thank the other authors for bouncing ideas with me.

The first magus for the Tin Islands project is up.

So, the first magus is up for this project.  I was calling him Ken before, but now he’s called Coracinet. I stole the shark stats from crocodilles in Magi of Hermes…do you think anyone will mind? https://timothyferguson.wordpress.com/ephemera/ars-magica-ephemera/tin-islands-project/character-menu/coracinet-of-bjornaer-a-shapeshifter/

A revised take on spontaneous spell menus

Over on the Ars Forum Tugdual has suggested I should just double all the numbers so that the roll is a straight one, without the division, which would allow me to just say “Roll 1” What do you think?  Spontaneous spell menu: These are small spells you create as needed. So that you don’t need…

The cart before the horse and the wolf before the shark

So for the Tin Islands Project I’m doing things backwards.  I should design cool things for the characters to overcome, and then design the pregens so that they can overcome them. This makes for a smoother game, so long as you can avoid the feeling that you used ot get in some older D&D modules…

Cryptic photographs concerning things I’d really like to write about, for Ars Magica

When in the UK, my wife took some photos for me, and I’ve put around 30 of them in a Facebook album. Each reflects something I wanted to remember, because I had an Ars Magica story idea related to it.  I’m not going to say any more, beyond linking to the album.

Tin Islands Project : What’s different to normal?

The Tin Islands project for Ars Magica is beginning to take some shape in my mind.   Here’s what is going to make it distinctive. All players will get a two page version of the basic Ars Magica rules. My first attempt at this is over here. All Latin terms will be given in English, other than…
