Hi, a brief note – this isn’t your episode for the week.

There are two things involving my writing I’d like to highlight. David, who did the layout for the free Sabrina’s Rest material surprised me with a really beautiful bit of work on my Cornwall writing. Imagine my Cornwall supplement edited cleanly and then laid out by someone with a sense of balance and restraint? He’s seeking volunteers to help the proofread over on the Atlas Forum.

On an unrelated note, Shewstone Publishing’s game of Elizabethan magic has funded. I’ve joined as an author, to help with some of the drafting. For more information, check their site.

Would you like Magonomia to be one episode a month here on GFF when it goes live next year, or should I split the material into two podcast feeds? A lot of Magonomia material works in Ars Magica, and vice versa.

The research for Magonomia is fascinating, but it takes time out of the general reading which I do to create episodes for Games From Folktales. To work around that I usually have spare epsiodes in the can, but I let them loose for the lockin. To fill the gaps I’m doing some more “columns” for the next little while: at least until I’ve drafted Magonomia and know what research material is committed and what is spare.

Going forward, the plan for the next six months or so is:

  • One Venice episode a month (five have been recorded)
  • One Curious Lore of Precious Stones per month until November (all recorded).
  • From November one poem by Walter de la Mare, that contains either a creature or a location, per month. (I have enough to last until December 2021, but haven’t recorded them yet).
  • From October, one chapter of Lord Dunsany’s The King of the Elfland’s Daughter, stripped out for useful parts, much as I stripped out The Chronicles of Shadow Valley. (Thirty chapters, but not all of them will get an episode).
  • One non-column episode per month, two on months with five Fridays.

The monthly pdfs are way behind, so I’ll be catching those up in chunks of three months. I’m about 20 creatures behind. in terms of statting material up. I’m hoping to work them up at one per month, along with one “new” creature from a live episode. At the end, they’ll all be rolled into a version of the Half-remembered Monsters web supplement. Last time I discussed this, I said I was aiming for that as episode 275, but the huge number of lockdown releases has chewed through the episode numbers. Currently, Episode 300 is late December – we’ll see if we can get there.

  1. “A lot of Magonomia material works in Ars Magica, and vice versa.”

I think that’s the key for me – the potential to cross-fertilise concepts. Although Magonomia isn’t just Elizabethan Ars, I think this aspect is what I’d find interesting and also inspiring in terms of making me rethink concepts and become interested in contributing concepts via my blog in future.
